Hastelloy C22 alloy is an all-purpose nickel-chromium-molybdenum-tungsten alloy with better overall corrosion resistance than other available nickel-chromium-molybdenum alloys including Hastelloy C276, C4 alloy, and 625 alloy.Hastelloy C22 alloy has excellent resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, and stress corrosion cracking. It has excellent resistance to oxidizing aqueous media, including wet chlorine, nitric acid, or a mixture of oxidizing acids containing chloride ions. Hastelloy C22 alloy is also ideally suited to resist both reducing and oxidizing environments encountered in the process. This versatility allows it to be used in challenging environments or in multi-purpose plants, and Hastelloy C22 alloy is exceptionally resistant to a wide range of chemical environments, including strongly oxidizing substances such as ferric chloride, copper chloride, chlorine, thermally contaminated solutions (organic and inorganic), formic, acetic and acetic anhydrides, seawater, and saline solutions. Hastelloy C22 alloy has the ability to resist the formation of grain boundary precipitates in the weld heat-affected zone, which makes it suitable for a wide range of chemical process applications even in the welded condition.

Hastelloy C22 alloy is suitable for use in a variety of chemical process industries containing oxidizing and reducing media. The high molybdenum and chromium content makes the alloy resistant to chloride ions, and the tungsten element further enhances its corrosion resistance. Hastelloy C22 is one of only a few materials that are resistant to corrosion from moist chlorine, hypochlorite, and chlorine dioxide solutions, and the alloy exhibits significant corrosion resistance to high concentrations of chlorinated salts (e.g., ferric chloride and copper chloride).
Hastelloy C22 alloy is used in a wide range of chemical and petrochemical applications, such as in components and catalytic systems that come into contact with chlorinated organics. The material is particularly suitable for use at high temperatures, in inorganic and organic acids mixed with impurities (e.g. formic and acetic acid), and in seawater corrosive environments.
